Community Guidelines
Purpose and scope
These Community Guidelines explain how members and staff should behave when using NostalgiaNow, including restoration requests, voting, member profiles and future chat or communication features. They operate alongside our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy and Copyright Policy. Features described as planned are subject to launch and may not yet be available.
Respectful participation
Treat other members and staff with respect, including when disagreeing about a video, artist, restoration or moderation decision. Constructive criticism is welcome. Personal attacks, bullying, intimidation, persistent unwanted contact, stalking and threats are prohibited. Do not encourage others to target or harass a person.
Hate, exploitation and harmful content
Do not post hateful or discriminatory abuse, sexual exploitation material, threats of violence, instructions for serious harm, or content that is unlawful in the circumstances. Material involving the sexual exploitation of minors is strictly prohibited. Urgent safety concerns may result in immediate restrictions and, where legally appropriate, referral to competent authorities.
Privacy, identity and impersonation
Do not impersonate another member, staff member, artist or organisation. Do not publish personal information about others without a valid basis, including home addresses, private contact information or confidential account details. Respect members’ chosen profile and voting visibility settings. Reusing a previously held username does not make a new account the same person as a former account holder.
Account integrity and abuse prevention
One personal account per person is the ordinary rule, unless an authorised administrator grants an exception. Do not use multiple accounts, bots, scripts, coordinated activity or other methods to evade restrictions, manipulate votes or disrupt the service. Never attempt to access another account or administrator-only functions without authorisation.
Restoration requests and submissions
Restoration requests are moderated. Authorised staff may approve, edit for clarity, combine duplicates, reject, close, hide or remove submissions, with appropriate reasons and audit records. Submit accurate and relevant information; do not spam requests or claim rights you do not hold. Submitting a request is not a promise of restoration or publication, and any project remains subject to rights, feasibility and platform restrictions.
Voting and poll fairness
Polls and request-voting features may have individual rules, eligibility criteria, limits or closing dates configured by authorised staff. Do not manipulate results through duplicate accounts, automated votes, bribery or misleading behaviour. Where public vote attribution is offered, you may choose whether your username is displayed publicly. Necessary vote records may still be reviewed by specifically authorised staff to investigate abuse. Your privacy choice should not be overridden for publicity.
Chat, messages and communications
When chat becomes available, registered members may participate subject to the published chat rules and any applicable restrictions. Do not spam, harass, send malicious links, solicit private information or share prohibited material. Moderators may remove messages from public view or restrict participation. The intended internal retention period for chat-related records is 12 months, subject to lawful investigation holds and operational verification; removing a public message does not necessarily delete the associated restricted moderation record immediately.
Copyright and third-party material
Respect the rights of music publishers, record labels, artists, creators and other rights holders. Do not post infringing material, links designed to bypass access restrictions or requests intended to facilitate unlawful access. Video restoration and enhancement do not by themselves confer copyright ownership or distribution rights. Reports about rights can be handled under our Copyright & Takedown Policy, including temporary hiding of reported material while reviewed.
Spam, fraud and technical misuse
Do not advertise without permission, run scams, distribute malware, attempt phishing, overload the website, scrape private data or interfere with security controls. Do not misuse reporting or appeals systems to target other users. Staff may take proportionate action to protect the service and its members.
Member profiles and personal choices
Profiles are intended to be private by default when public profiles are introduced. Members may choose allowed public information and may withdraw those choices. Date of birth remains private unless an eligible member explicitly enables a future visibility control; full birth-date display is intended for adults aged 18 or older, while day-and-month birthday display may be offered separately. Never pressure members to reveal private details.
Promotion and reuse of community contributions
Members keep ownership of their original lawful submissions. Optional promotional reuse of eligible community contributions will be controlled by a separate member opt-in, off by default. Do not republish another member’s private material or assume that public participation automatically permits unrelated advertising. Applicable Terms and privacy choices continue to govern use of submissions.
Reporting concerns
Use the available reporting or support channel to report misconduct, inappropriate submissions, copyright concerns or suspected abuse of staff authority. Provide useful details where possible without publishing sensitive evidence to other members. Reports should be made in good faith; knowingly false or retaliatory reports may themselves be moderated. A secure reporting contact must be available before public launch.
Warnings, restrictions and bans
Moderation is proportionate to the incident and can include a warning, content removal, limits on chat, voting or requests, time-limited or indefinite suspension pending review, and permanent bans. Serious safety, abuse, fraud or security incidents may justify immediate suspension without prior warning. Exceptional permanent deletion may be considered only where necessary, proportionate and lawful, with appropriate preservation of relevant evidence. Staff will record decisions and reasons.
Notifications and appeals
Where appropriate, affected members will receive an email and in-account notification explaining a moderation decision, its duration and appeal route, except where disclosure would compromise a genuine investigation, safety or law. Members may appeal and submit further appeals where new evidence or circumstances warrant review. Repetitive abusive appeals may be managed. Account restrictions must not eliminate legitimate privacy-request or appeal contact routes.
Staff conduct, permissions and accountability
Authorised staff must treat members fairly, protect confidential information and use their powers only for legitimate purposes. Staff roles and individual capabilities are intended to be configurable and restricted to necessary tasks. Planned safeguards include mandatory staff MFA, separate access to sensitive audit records, mandatory reasons for significant edits and independent approval of critical operations. These controls must be implemented and verified before being described as active.
Retention, investigations and member rights
Chat-related information is intended to be kept for 12 months, subject to specific documented legal exceptions. Significant account and administrative change events are intended for long-term accountability, but identifiable retention must be assessed for necessity and proportionality. Members retain applicable privacy, correction, deletion and access rights as explained in the Privacy Policy. Rules and timelines are not operational promises until the relevant systems are implemented.
Guideline changes and questions
NostalgiaNow may update these Guidelines for safety, legal and operational reasons. Material updates will be communicated, with renewed acceptance where appropriate. Members can ask questions or raise concerns through the published support channel. The current version and effective date will appear on the published page.
